Went here for wisdom teeth extraction. Got all 4 at the same time out. Very few places in the Bay Area accept Dental-Cal, so I had to come from some distance.Hurt less than a regular dental cleaning. With a regular dental cleaning, no anesthesia, and I have to use some meditative pain killing mental techniques. With this, my mouth is numbed from local anesthesia, so the only thing I had to manage was fear.I read online that there's local anesthesia, laughing gas, and deep sedation as options.Deep sedation adds at least $1000 to the bill, so I think that's why it's not covered by insurance and offered here. Local anesthesia is covered. They do charge $222 out of pocket for nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. It's for easing your anxiety and mood. I took it off because I believed I could manage my own fear well enough. It went fine. Easier than regular dental cleaning because pain isn't feeding the fear. If you feel anything at all, gesture at the surgeon to stop and you'll get more local anesthesia. The surgeon I had, Dr. Lee, did a great job by saying "You'll hear some loud noises like (insert example). It is expected" and various forms of it constantly. This greatly helped in easing my anxiety.Things to note is:- No eating 8 hours before procedure.- Don't sign that patient consent form without asking surgeon questions. Just in case.- No strenuous physical activity afterwards for 7 days. Couldn't exercise for a week.- Liquid food afterwards. I personally relied on a blender for vegetables (spring mix type), fruits (berries, grapes, bananas), oatmeal (literally just drop in, it turns into granules). Also, pasteurized egg whites from Costco for protein unless I wanted to... test out the urban myth of blending chicken or something. And multivitamins.- No driving or doing much of anything while pain killers were in effect.- Hound them for prescription of antibiotics and pain killers. b f below did a great job notifying us of this pitfall ahead of time. After surgery, you can't talk, so I had to type and write to get them to work on sending my prescriptions to the pharmacy. The medications were: ibuprofen, another stronger pain killer, a medicated rinse for the spots where the extracted teeth used to be, and an antibiotic.Right after the surgery, had to rush up to pharmacy to pick up my medications. Definitely Uber to get to medication asap and then get some liquid food in you to go with the Ibuprofen. If you want to know what it felt like, try SF Japantown Hinodeya's spicy ramen at lvl 10 and 20 :3On the second day, my body would not warm up no matter if I was under 7 layers of clothing and under sunlight. This ended up confining myself to bed for the next 2 days, throwing plans out the window. Liquid food via a blender helped immensely in getting me through this time period; I could feel myself warming up somewhat after "eating".Last thing I'll mention is the pain killer exercises I use.First is control of attention. Whatever you're not paying attention to, you will feel less terror and pain of. So, first key is to take your attention off of the source of pain and onto something you control. Basic easy first step is to choose any subject and spam thoughts about it. Second is to look at what you're thinking about, then separate everything into chunks and threads, less overwhelming. Then, pick out your fears. Fear magnifies suffering, doubles triples it. Fear is a signal about possible bodily harm, esp about the unknown, so you have to use your current knowledge to convince yourself that you are safe. Then, finding some important emotional need you have and tying completion of this task to fulfilling that need, so this proactive emotion overwhelms the negative prohibiting emotions. There's more self-brainwashing, but hard to talk about here.Would need some practice via exercise, a safe form of pain endurance. Cardio, HIIT, stretching are typically more painful than weight training imo. Weight training should be safety-first and daily commitment first, not push-hard and painful.Anyways, much tangents.
Amazing how they explain the treatment they are going to do! Devon was very nice!
